Should I get a second refrigerator?

The family refrigerator is used a great deal – it is in the middle of the kitchen, and even those that do not need anything from the fridge will open it with some regularly simply to see if there is something inside that they COULD want. The main refrigerator of any household is important. But some people like to get a second refrigerator, and those that do are going to need a place to put it.

Who Gets a 2nd Fridge?

People may look to get a second refrigerator for a variety of reasons. Most of the time it is about size – big families (or families that often eat together and store a lot of food in the refrigerator) may run out of room, and so another fridge may be necessary to keep all of the food that the family wishes to keep on hand.

Another reason to get another fridge is because you would like to store things separately, or because you have a guest bedroom or roommate and would like them to have their own storage center. With refrigerators, if you think you need a second one, you probably do, regardless of the reason.

What is the Best Place for a Second Fridge?

For full sized refrigerators, there are really only two places that will be out of the way enough to not impact your life yet useful enough to store what you need to store. The best places are the:

·        Basement

·        Garage

Both of these places have their own natural noises, and both of these places are not regularly inhabited to the point where the sounds of the refrigerator would cause problems for anyone that stays there. The basement is especially useful for those that are looking to store things like wine, beer, and other beverages they may not have room for in the refrigerator. Anything that could be kept cold but does not need to be accessed often (implying it also will not expire for a while).

The garage is better for things you need to access with greater frequency, such as vegetables or fruits. Many people with their own garden like to have a quick fridge they can store these items so as to not clog up the main refrigerator.

What about a Mini Fridge?

Another options is to get a mini-fridge. Mini-fridges can go essentially everywhere, as they are not very loud and take up very little space. College students rely on mini fridges regularly, but if you have a teenager that would like their own refrigerator to cool their drinks or store small food items, a mini fridge should work in their room. Mini fridges also are useful in areas of the house that commonly have gatherings, as they can be a good place to store drinks for easy access.

Overall, a second fridge is as useful as you need it to be for whatever you need it for. If you need extra space, there is little reason not to get a fridge provided you have a good place to store it, and if you do not, perhaps a mini-fridge will work instead.
