Summit FFBF245SSIM Freezer Bottom Refrigerators Review

There are many big names in refrigeration. Names like Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE and Frigidaire are well known, and can easily be trusted to give you a fridge that is supported by years of success in the refrigeration industry.

There are also many brands that are less well known, and so there are bound to be more questions about the efficacy of their refrigerators simply due to few people knowing about these models. The Summit FFBF245SSIM Freezer Bottom is an example of just such a model – though the Summit brand has been manufacturing refrigerators for many years, the Summit brand has not truly made a name for itself in the industry for mainstream consumers, so it’s models are going to be looked at more skeptically by the average individual.

Pros

The Summit FFBF245SSIM Freezer Bottom has a unique design that some will love and others will not. It is essentially gray with and boxy, but with a dark gray that will fit with almost any décor. The energy efficiency of the unit is nice, and the adjustable shelves are a plus. There is a clear crisper inside for you to monitor your vegetables, and the freezer does have a quick freeze setting which can be very useful.

Cons

11.5 cubic feet is extremely small, especially for a refrigerator that is over 73 inches tall and costs over $1.000. Most of the reason for this is the 23 inch depth – designed to help it fit in smaller spaces, but to put its size into perspective, a 4 cubic foot mini fridge can be found for approximately $150, and the Summit FFBF245SSIM Freezer Bottom is less than 3 times the storage space for 10 times the cost.

Features on the Summit FFBF245SSIM Freezer Bottom are also somewhat lacking, though the cooling system is top notch. There is no water dispenser, monitoring system, or any of these other useful tools. Perhaps more inconvenient is the bottom freezer. Though frequently found on many bottom freezer models, the Summit FFBF245SSIM Freezer Bottom has a bottom freezer door that you have to swing open, requiring you to bend over and left any of the frozen items you wish to consume. Turkeys and other heavy items may be difficult to lift, and every time you open the door you need to step foot out of the way. There are pull out shelves inside the freezer, however, which reduce the inconvenience.

Overall Impressions

With today’s modern refrigerators designs, there is nothing about the Summit FFBF245SSIM Freezer Bottom that truly stands out, and many of the small inconveniences can really add up and make the machine seem even less valuable. It is hard to recommend the item, but as far as food preservation there is very little wrong with it, so it isn’t a bad choice so much as a choice that most people are unlikely to make.
