Top Brands of Refrigerator

Though refrigerator models are how one chooses the features that are right for them, brand names still go a long way. Just like with cars, electronics, and other items, the brand can give you a reasonable estimate about effectiveness of the machine, because the brand represents years of poor, decent, or quality products. By searching for specific brands, you can reasonably assume that the quality of the model you choose is going to be representative of that brand, and if the brand name has a history of quality, there is a good chance that you will be getting a quality appliance.

Here are some of the most popular brands for refrigerators around the world.

1.      Whirlpool

Whirlpool itself does not often create refrigerators under its brand name (though it does in some rare cases). However, Whirlpool does have sub-brands. KitchenAid refrigerators are a subset of Whirlpool, as are Maytag, Amana, and Jenn-Air. KitchenAid, and Jenn-Air are the higher end brands, while Maytag is a little more cost effective and Amana is designed to be a straight value brand with very competitive pricing but without many of the nifty features of many other brands.

2.      GE

GE makes some high quality refrigerators with several of their own sub brands (that almost always have GE in the name). GE loves to integrate technology into its products, and GE refrigerators are no different. GE is working on integrating interactive LCD screens onto some of its models and already has several options for those looking for more of a luxury model.

3.      Kenmore

Yet another popular brand name for refrigerators and appliances, Kenmore is well known for its reliable products that, while not as technologically flashy, are no less advanced. They offer both high end refrigerators as well as value brand refrigerators, though all of them carry the Kenmore name.

4.      LG

LG is like a hybrid of GE and Kenmore. They have reliable refrigerators, are moderately flashy in terms of technological integration, and are somewhat high end though they do have more inexpensive models as well.

5.      Samsung

One of the Japanese leaders in appliances and technology, Samsung shares its own similarities with LG. Interestingly, both of them are known best for their bottom freezer models, though Samsung tends to integrate a considerable amount of technology into their appliances. Samsung is somewhat expensive, but the company is known to do interesting marketing ideas, such as their recent choice to give away a free LCD TV with purchase of one of their models in late 2009.

Check the Features, Check the Brand

Refrigerators are a considerably large purchase. You want to find the features that you're going to need, the size that you need, and a model that you can afford. However, though brand name should not be the only way to decide on a good refrigerator, it is still one of the better ways to get an estimate of the brand’s reliability. If you like a refrigerator that falls under any of the above brands, chances are you are making a good decision.
