Types of Refrigerator
Refrigeration capabilities are things that everyone
needs inside their home. Without them, your food would get old, you could
not keep/heat leftovers, and you would be at serious risk for food borne
illness. Refrigerators are able to pay for themselves – by allowing you to
save foods for longer and prevent them from spoiling in your home.
There are several different kinds of refrigerators
available. Most of the time, the choice you make has to do with the space
you have available, but some of these are merely based on your own personal
preference for what type of refrigerator you would like to have in your
home.
Types of Fridges
·
Freezer Top
The most common refrigerator type, the freezer top
models have the freezer above the fridge, generally at eye level. Top
freezer refrigerators use less energy and are basically the standard model
of all refrigerators today.
·
Freezer Bottom
Bottom freezer models are designed like upside down
top freezer models. Though these tend to use more energy, the freezer space
is generally larger, and it is not uncommon for people to use their
refrigerators more often due to ease of access – most foods are at eye
level, making it easy to consider and select the foods of choice.
·
Side by Side Models
Like the name implies, side by side refrigerators
have the freezer on one side and the refrigerator on the other, split
generally down the middle (though the refrigerator side is almost always
larger). One of the benefits of these types of refrigerators is that they
are useful when you are in a limited space, but they also do not have much
width to the compartments so large boxes or items do not usually fit.
·
Mini-Fridges
Mini-fridges are small refrigerators that you can
put almost anywhere around your home. Their primary benefit is the ease with
which you can place them in your house – they are small enough to be used as
their own coffee table, and they can house smaller items like beers and
beverages in any room. They are not useful as a primary fridge, but they do
make an adequate secondary fridge, and often at a low cost.
·
Built in Refrigerators
Essentially a variety of the above refrigerators,
built in fridges are just that – built into the wall. They are often small
to account for space issues and they have a tendency to damage, but they are
better looking than other types of refrigerators because they are usually
designed to meld seamlessly with the décor.
·
Refrigerator Drawers
A new fad in refrigeration, refrigerator drawers
are just as they sound – drawers in kitchens that have refrigeration units.
They are not very spacious, energy efficient, or cost effective, but they do
provide you with a place to cool drinks and smaller items without having to
use up fridge space.
Other Types of Refrigerators
There are also additional types of refrigeration
units, such as wine refrigerators and cabinet style refrigerators, but most
are either specialty fridges or some variation of one of the above models.
In general, all of the refrigerators you find are going to fall under one of
the above categories
