Whirlpool Refrigerators Review

In general, most refrigerator brands are going to have their own single, unique name. Companies like LG and GE, for example, use their own brand name on all of their products, giving them greater name recognition that helps catapult them to success in the industry.

Whirlpool has taken an entirely different approach. The appliance giant has created several different sub brands that all fall under the Whirlpool name, and these sub brands have their own unique lines of refrigerators, designed to attract different corners of the market.

Whirlpool Brands

·        Amana

Amana is a widely known brand in the refrigerator industry. They create some of the most feature rich inexpensive models available, and are designed to compete with other inexpensive models. So far, they have been very successful, as they currently have one of the largest market shares of value brand refrigerators available. Amana adds antimicrobial lining to all of its products and have created some interesting features of their own, including a “fridge faucet” which dispenses water inside the fridge, rather than outside.

·        Jenn-Air

Jenn-Air is a more unique brand that designs more expensive refrigerators but with a good amount of space and the owner’s kitchen décor in mind. Jenn-Air has most modern features on its units, and also offers interesting color/design alternatives, such as its bronze and wood colored refrigerators.

·        KitchenAid

Like Jenn-Air, KitchenAid is better known for its high end models. But unlike Jenn-Air, KitchenAid also has some of the least expensive refrigerators available. KitchenAid may have some of the most feature rich options, but its low budget refrigerators are still easy to find, and may suit the needs of many different households.

·        Maytag

Maytag was at first its own company, purchased Amana, but was then purchased by Whirlpool. Maytag runs somewhat independently, so its designs are different than its parent company. They were also the first company to introduce the French Door design with a water dispenser, which is quickly catching on across the industry.

·        Whirlpool

Not to be outdone, Whirlpool itself often releases its own refrigerator models, and like KitchenAid they can cross the spectrum of value buys to luxury buys, and everything in between. They do not really have their own special niche, though water dispensing systems are found on almost every model available.

Overall Whirlpool Impressions

With such a large offering of products it is difficult to gauge exactly what Whirlpool does well and what it does not. But in many ways, not having a specialty is the Whirlpool brand specialty – they have essentially every type of refrigerator available for the modern family, running a wide range of income levels. They have not yet created a “True” luxury brand (with refrigerators of extremely high prices but extremely attractive designs), but in today’s tough economy, few people can afford those kinds of appliances anymore, so no one can fault Whirlpool for not making a play in the true luxury refrigerator market. With so many years of backing, going with any of these Whirlpool brands is not a bad choice at all.
